Indiana summer weekends in June can bring about any kind of weather, usually very Hot and Humid with a occasional thunderstorm later in the day.The 2014 Road Rocket Rumble at the Clarion Lake Front Hotel was hot,but a beautiful weekend full of some sweet Hot Rods great rockabilly music inside and outside the hotel and good friends.I enjoy coming back to Indiana each year for the Rumble, because as a family we spent 10 years racing up here at various tracks in different counties, just feels like home.I am not sure what the Road Rocket Car Club would do without Naomi…from the time you register to the time your leaving and waving goodbye this awesome lady runs this event,it doesn’t matter what time of day early morning or late afternoon in the boiling hot sun or shade she is consistent with the same personality all day long.As a vendor you want to come back each year for the hospitality.
We go to at least 6 or more events as a vendor between May & October and each one is different with a great verse of people.Shelby’s Way sets up as Shelby’s Speed & Kustom,we sell our shop T-shirts and other apparel to raise even more money for Shelby’s Way our non-profit “Brining Awareness to Suicide Prevention” the funds from these sells helps us stay on the road to each event and helps cover travel, hotel and gas expense. The booth usually also raises enough money to cover print material, advertising and assist those struggling in small areas of life.Whether at the events where we set up as a vendor or at the least 6 others we attend just to share our message of Suicide Awareness and Prevention,we select a participant for the Shelby’s Hot Rod Roundup Pick.At the 2014 Road Rocket Rumble our pick was Scott France and his heavily modified 1928 Ford Model A Pickup,a killer little bobber truck with tons of attitude.Scott and his wife are from Old Monroe,Missouri and from their they drove this little Hot Rod to the Rumble.I didn’t get a chance to visit with Scott much because we were so busy at the booth,it wasn’t until Scott came by to purchase a few T-shirts and shared that he also had a little Hot Rod Pickup like mind that I realized his was my pick.
Scott came by a few times the rest of the weekend and we shared in conversation our passion for this hobby and why I decided to start Shelby’s Way and my reason for sharing our non-profit with the automotive aftermarket.I guess Scott liked what he heard and seen the need of our message, that he decided to donate and become a advocate for Suicide Awareness and Prevention in his own hometown. This is our goal….to change minds and open hearts to new ideas while trying to end the stigma of Suicide and Mental Health.Scott you are a new Brother of mind in this journey and I am glad we had the time to talk and share with each other…God Bless and safe travels.See Ya next year!
